The Bishops Avenue, often dubbed “Billionaires’ Row,” is renowned for its grand residences and architectural diversity. Developed primarily in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the street was conceived as an exclusive enclave for the elite, with plots designed to accommodate substantial detached homes set within landscaped grounds. Early properties reflected Edwardian and Arts and Crafts influences, featuring ornate brickwork, sweeping gables and decorative timber details.
As the decades progressed, the avenue evolved into a showcase of wealth, with later builds embracing neo-Georgian, classical revival and, more recently, contemporary minimalist designs. The generous proportions of each estate, combined with private gardens and gated driveways, have preserved its reputation for seclusion and opulence. While some original mansions have been replaced by vast modern superhomes, the avenue remains an architectural tapestry that mirrors changing tastes in luxury living over more than a century.

Consultation

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout.

Client: Mr & Mrs Marcus Feldman, Private Residence, The Bishops Avenue N2
The Feldmans’ 1930s villa, nestled on The Bishops Avenue, had suffered an internal leak from a first-floor ensuite. The moisture had penetrated multiple rooms, damaging the lime plaster, causing silk wallcoverings to buckle and leaving fine mouldings stained. Externally, original stucco façades were flaking from prolonged exposure. The couple wanted the interiors reinstated to their original elegance with fresh decorative effects and historically accurate wallpapers. External redecoration also had to meet conservation requirements and endure the winter weather.
JRSL Interiors led a carefully phased process:
Diagnosis & Stabilisation: We partnered with a conservation surveyor to confirm all damp ingress had ceased, using digital moisture mapping and salt tests to guide timing.
Surface Recovery: Damaged plaster was gently removed and re-applied using breathable lime render. Ceiling roses and cornices were cleaned using poultice techniques and retouched by hand.
Wallpaper Sourcing & Hanging: The original silk paper was discontinued, but our design team located a French supplier producing a visually and texturally similar alternative. All walls were relined in linen before precision hanging.
Exterior Restoration: Stucco was repaired using a mineral-based compound for flexibility, primed with breathable coatings and hand-finished in warm ivory tones to match the house’s 1930s palette.
Decorative Effects: In the dining salon, we introduced a soft metallic glaze to highlight the ceiling’s perimeter coving, adding subtle light movement without altering period integrity.
The project was completed in seven weeks. Inside, the villa regained its original grandeur — the silk wallcoverings shimmer subtly under natural light and the ceilings appear untouched by damage. Outside, the restored façade now sits confidently among the street’s grandest homes. No cracking, no trapped moisture — just a flawless execution. The Feldmans praised the professionalism, restraint and technical fluency shown throughout.
"From the moment JRSL Interiors arrived, we felt reassured. The damage had felt overwhelming at first, everything was damaged and had lost its character. But they brought it all back and more. They cared for the property with audacious attention, working with zero fuss and handling our anxieties with total calm and professionalism. Even our external rendering looks reborn. It’s like they gave the house its dignity back. Quiet professionals, master craftsmen. We wouldn’t go to anyone else again."
