At JRSL Interiors, we approach painting and decorating with a deep appreciation for each client’s personal vision and lifestyle. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all solution, we take the time to understand individual preferences and translate them into refined, bespoke interiors. Our extensive portfolio reflects this commitment, showcasing a diverse range of aesthetics—from sleek contemporary minimalism to timeless, classical elegance. Every project we deliver is a carefully curated expression of our client’s character and aspirations, executed with the highest level of craftsmanship and detail.
At JRSL Interiors, we believe in a seamless, step-by-step journey that ensures our clients in Marylebone feel supported from the very beginning. From the initial spark of inspiration to tailored designs, meticulous site management and smooth logistics, we handle every stage with care. Our approach is collaborative, transparent and centred around you—ensuring that the finished result not only meets but elevates your expectations. Every project we complete is a true reflection of our clients’ individuality, with style and function combined to create interiors that feel both timeless and personal.

Marylebone, in the heart of Central London, has a rich and layered history that blends aristocratic heritage with urban sophistication. The name derives from St Mary’s Church, originally built on the banks of the Tyburn stream, known locally as “St Mary by the Bourne”, which over time became Marylebone. From the 18th century onwards, the area developed into an elegant residential district, shaped by the Dukes of Portland and Cavendish family estates.
With wide streets and graceful squares, Marylebone has attracted London’s elite, with Georgian terraces and later Victorian buildings defining much of its character. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Marylebone became synonymous with refined living, balancing proximity to the bustle of the West End with the charm of a self-contained village. Today, it retains its reputation for culture, style and history, housing iconic landmarks such as Madame Tussauds, Harley Street and the world-renowned Regent’s Park.

Consultation

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout.

When a kitchen fire in Alexandra Bertram’s Grade II-listed townhouse in Marylebone caused extensive smoke damage, the impact reached far beyond just one room. Blackened ceilings, discoloured joinery and stained plasterwork affected nearly the entire ground floor. The original cornices, timber skirting and period architraves were all compromised. Conservation regulations for listed properties in Marylebone added further complexity, requiring careful planning and phased approval.
Initial Assessment & Collaboration: JRSL Interiors conducted a detailed inspection and worked alongside the client’s insurance loss adjuster and a conservation architect to ensure listed-building compliance.
Timber and Cornice Restoration: Original cornices were documented and replicated where damaged beyond repair. Skirtings and timber mouldings were hand-stripped and restored with precision.
Odour & Surface Treatment: Specialist primers were applied to all ceiling and wall areas to eliminate smoke odour and discolouration. These included stain-blocking undercoats suited for lime-plastered walls.
Spray Paint & Decorative Finishing: Airless spray techniques delivered a uniform finish across large ceilings and detailed cornice areas once surfaces were fully stabilised. Decorative glazing techniques reinstated patina to match the original tone.
French Polishing: Antique sideboards and the mahogany stair rail, dulled and streaked by smoke, were gently stripped, re-stained and polished, reviving their deep lustre.
The Marylebone townhouse was restored. Heritage details were faithfully preserved and JRSL’s subtle enhancements brought depth and cohesion to every room. The project was completed within 10 weeks, under full compliance with conservation oversight and with zero disruption to the client's phased return.
"I was absolutely devastated by the effects of the fire - our world felt disrupted as never before. What JRSL Interiors did was nothing short of transformational. Every cornice, skirting and ceiling now looks like it’s always been - untouched - but improved. Their sensitivity to the house’s history and coordination with insurers and conservation officers made the process so smooth and stress free. I returned to a space that felt restored in spirit, not just fabric. Every decision was thoughtful. Every finish was immaculate. It no longer feels like a recovery; it feels like a rebirth. I’m so very grateful to you all! Many thanks - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."
