This methodology has helped us to collaborate with many remarkable clients and talented professionals over the years.

Islington’s architectural history is a rich tapestry that reflects centuries of London’s evolving identity. Originally a rural area dotted with Tudor farmhouses and Georgian villas, Islington transformed rapidly during the 18th and 19th centuries. The arrival of the Regent’s Canal in the early 1800s and the expansion of the railways spurred development, leading to elegant Georgian terraces, Victorian townhouses and industrial warehouses—many of which survive today.
Streets like Upper Street showcase a blend of late Georgian and early Victorian façades, while backstreets reveal hidden squares and worker cottages. The post-war era brought both modernist housing estates and conservation efforts, balancing progress with preservation. Today, Islington is celebrated for its architectural contrasts—heritage buildings repurposed into modern homes, cutting-edge infill developments beside listed landmarks.

Consultation

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout.

Client: Emma Wallace, homeowner and interior design consultant
Emma had recently acquired a Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse on a quiet crescent near Canonbury Square. While the home retained many original features, decades of surface wear, unsympathetic past refurbishments and persistent damp damage had left the interiors tired. Emma wanted to preserve the building’s architectural history while creating a contemporary family home that was refined, durable and authentic to the property’s heritage.
We began with a full consultation and condition assessment to identify underlying issues and historic elements worth preserving. From there, we undertook the project in four key stages:
Emma’s home was transformed into a serene, timeless space that combined the beauty of its period features with crisp, contemporary detailing. Light now plays across chalky walls and restored cornices and the subtle colour scheme flows room to room. Most importantly, all finishes used are breathable, VOC-conscious and compatible with the home’s age and structure.
"JRSL Interiors truly understood the balance I was looking for– sensitive restoration with a fresh, current feel. Their team was methodical, respectful and deeply skilled. Every detail was discussed. I couldn’t be happier with the results.
From start to finish, JRSL Interiors carefully planned and progressed our decoration. Their attention to detail, respect for our property and ability to work seamlessly alongside our builder and designer were exceptional. The final finish is stunning and the process was as smooth as we hoped."
We begin with a thorough inspection and align our materials and methods to conservation guidelines. We use breathable paints and avoid acrylics where inappropriate.
We work with Little Greene, Edward Bulmer and specialist labs to custom-match colours using samples or archive references.
We recommend a durable eggshell or satin finish, often with water-based hybrid enamels for a smooth, brush-free appearance.
We offer out-of-hours working, use quiet tools and maintain clean, isolated zones to minimise dust and noise.
