Ingram Avenue is one of the most architecturally significant roads in North London. Located on the edge of Hampstead Garden Suburb, the street was developed in the early 20th century as part of a visionary approach to suburban planning. Designed by renowned architects such as Edwin Lutyens and influenced by the Arts & Crafts movement, many of the homes feature hand-crafted brickwork, steeply pitched gables, timber-framed facades and clay-tiled roofs.
The area reflects a commitment to architectural harmony and natural integration, with generous plots, landscaped gardens and mature trees. Unlike later suburban developments, Ingram Avenue was built with strict design codes, preserving visual cohesion and a sense of understated elegance. Today, the avenue continues to attract high-net-worth residents, with several original homes sympathetically extended or restored and new builds maintaining the street’s quiet grandeur. It remains a benchmark for architectural refinement in NW11.

Consultation

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout.

Client: Ms Tamsin Bloom, Family Residence, Ingram Avenue NW11
Set in one of Hampstead’s most exclusive residential streets, Ms Bloom’s detached contemporary-classic home featured high-spec walnut joinery, expansive custom cabinetry and decorative plaster ceilings throughout. However, over time, the family’s daily use — along with pets and frequent entertaining — had dulled the cabinetry’s appearance, chipped panelled edges and left fine scratches across painted surfaces. Ms Bloom wanted the entire ground floor’s joinery to be hand-finished in a softer colour palette without stripping back the woodwork’s character. Every change had to integrate seamlessly with the original interior design choices, including lighting and adjacent marble finishes.
JRSL Interiors approached the task methodically:
Assessment & Colour Matching: We prepared samples in the property to evaluate how alternative tones reacted to natural and artificial light. A heritage satin-finish paint was selected for its resilience and low reflectivity.
Surface Preparation: All cabinetry was gently abraded and degreased. Damaged edges were filled with specialist joinery resin and primed to ensure a uniform surface.
Hand-Painting Technique: We used ultra-fine sable brushes for detailed cornices and edge lines, applying multiple thin coats by hand to avoid brush marks or overlapping strokes.
Blending Decorative Features: Ceiling roses and cornices were cleaned and finished with a pearl-wash glaze to reflect ambient lighting. We matched bespoke colour tones across thresholds to maintain visual continuity.
Dustless Execution: HEPA-filtered extraction units were used throughout, with all work areas sealed nightly and left spotlessly clean by 7 am each day.
The joinery now gleams with refined elegance, retaining the tactile warmth of natural wood but refreshed with soft, contemporary colour. The space feels brighter, more cohesive and visually balanced across zones. Ms Bloom and her family could continue living at home without disruption and all entertaining spaces were available every weekend as requested. The transformation felt effortless but was underpinned by precise planning and deeply skilled execution.
"JRSL Interiors were simply fantastic. I dreaded the upheaval — repainting cabinetry can be messy and unpredictable — but their team was composed, methodical and extraordinarily protective of our home. The finish is exceptional. Our kitchen and library feel brand new, yet nothing looks out of place or overdone. They matched every tone to the stone and flooring. We barely noticed they were here during the week and the place looked untouched every morning. I trust them completely and highly recommend them."
Yes, we use environmentally responsible products, including low-VOC paints, limewash and sustainable finishes on request.
