Our network includes historic restorations, luxury renovations and maintenance of tenanted residences. Every project we undertake is approached with the same principle: craft each detail carefully, preserve what matters and deliver a lasting finish. We have managed to develop a large number of lasting relationships in Earls Court, with architects, interior designers and local residents.

Earls Court is known for its iconic mansion blocks, tree-lined crescents and handsome garden squares. The architecture requires specialist attention, whether restoring original plaster mouldings or enhancing large, light-filled drawing rooms fitted with ornate details. With a wave of gentrification over recent years, many homes blend traditional detailing with modern luxury. Our role is to seamlessly harmonise these elements.
Earls Court is a tapestry of late-Victorian mansion blocks, decorative stucco façades and grand period interiors. The architectural significance lies in the rich detailing that defines its elegance. Traditional painting and decorating remain essential for aesthetics and authentic preservation. Residents and property managers value true craftsmanship, as an investment in the home’s legacy and enduring character.

Consultation

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout.

Client: James Cartwright
Project Type: Full internal redecoration of a three-bedroom period apartment
Property: Third-floor Victorian apartment overlooking Bramham Gardens
Timeline: 3.5 weeks
Mr Cartwright had recently acquired a charming Victorian apartment in a Grade II-listed mansion block on Bramham Gardens. While the layout offered generous proportions, the decorative condition of the flat was poor. Original features—including ornate ceiling roses, deep cornices and shuttered sash windows—were concealed under decades of patchy, flaking paint. The cabinetry in the kitchen and study had also yellowed over time and inconsistent use of finishes throughout the flat disrupted its character.
The key challenges included:
Assessment & Planning: Our team conducted a full on-site survey, identifying substrate issues, movement cracks and areas of historic water ingress. We planned a phased schedule, working exclusively Monday to Friday to allow uninterrupted weekend access for the family.
Preparation & Protection: All historic plasterwork was masked and gently cleaned. Low-adhesion conservation tape protected mouldings during careful stripping of loose paint.
Timber Restoration: Each sash window was deglazed, stripped, repaired with epoxy resin where necessary and reassembled with new draught seals. All joinery was primed and brush-painted using a durable satin acrylic.
Cabinet Refinish: Kitchen and study cabinetry were degreased, lightly sanded and sprayed off-site in a soft bespoke tone to match the wall colour, reducing visual fragmentation.
Final Decoration: Walls were coated in a breathable, mineral-based paint in a warm chalk tone to complement natural light. Ceilings received a softer white, while mouldings were subtly highlighted in an eggshell finish for depth.
The redecoration delivered a seamless blend of period character and contemporary sophistication. Light now bounces elegantly across matte walls, with original detailing proudly restored and visually unified. The property feels calm, expansive and elevated—ready for modern family life while respecting its architectural legacy.
"The JRSL team truly exceeded our expectations. They were sensational in delivering extremely high-quality results. Every detail, down to the window hardware, was protected with the utmost care and attention. The flat now feels fresh, cohesive and true to its origins. I wouldn't trust anyone else with a project like this in Earls Court."
We use low-tack masking systems and breathable paints that do not compromise historic plaster. Using traditional methods, we can restore and replicate lost mouldings in situ in damaged cases.
We often recommend mineral-based paints or natural limewash finishes that allow walls to breathe, avoiding trapped moisture and preventing blistering or peeling.
Absolutely. We frequently schedule out-of-hours work and use low-VOC products to eliminate odours and disruption. We're also experienced in managing shared access in mansion blocks discreetly.
Typically between 2-3 weeks, depending on the scope. That includes preparation, multiple coats and drying time. We plan carefully to stay on schedule without cutting corners.
We use dead flat emulsion or soft matte finishes to create a calm, elegant backdrop. For joinery, satin or eggshell provides a gentle sheen with excellent durability.
Yes, we offer complete colour consultation services. We’ll help clients select tones that reflect natural light and suit the architectural features of their property.
By balancing subtle modern shades with heritage detailing. For example, contemporary pale greys and off-whites on walls paired with reinstated period cornices and architraves.
Yes. We regularly work with natural lime paints, casein-based emulsions and other environmentally sensitive systems suitable for heritage interiors.
We gently remove failed coatings, consolidate the surface and apply breathable fillers and primers. Then we refinish with compatible, flexible paints to avoid future failure.
