JRSL Interiors was commissioned to execute a comprehensive interior redecoration of a Grade II listed townhouse in Kensington. The objective was to preserve the historic charm of the property while introducing sophisticated modern finishes. This project demanded meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that the home's period features were restored and enhanced without compromising its structural or historical integrity. The scope of work included comprehensive worksite protection throughout, restoration and preservation works, pecialised painting techniques and careful handling of fixtures and fittings.
Whilst the property remained emptied of most of its contents, the original wooden flooring required safeguarding during the renovation as a top priority. We implemented a multi-layered flooring protection; laying lining paper followed by Correx corrugated plastic sheeting throughout the property. Additionally, hardboard sheets were strategically placed in areas requiring access towers for high ceilings to facilitate safe movement without damaging the floors. This comprehensive protection ensured that no part of the original flooring or fixtures was compromised during the restoration.
To enable a seamless and high-quality finish, all down lights, electrical sockets and light switches were carefully removed and bagged up while keeping them connected to the power supply. This approach prevented damage from paint and dust while maintaining functionality. Door handles and other door furniture were also removed to allow undisturbed surface preparation and painting. Upon project completion, all fixtures were meticulously reinstalled to their original positions, ensuring both functionality and aesthetics were perfectly restored.
Areas of compromised skirting were expertly cut away and spliced in with new timber sections, using a two-part compound filler, providing a flawless finish that seamlessly blended with the original architecture. Joinery elements, including skirting boards, timber doorframes and the intricate mouldings, were thoroughly repaired and redecorated to match the existing aesthetics of the property.
A curated palette of heritage-inspired tones were chosen to complement the home’s architecture, using Farrow and Ball paints - emulsion for ceilings and walls and eggshell for woodwork to achieve a timeless and elegant look. Traditional hand-painting techniques were employed throughout, ensuring a high-end, classic finish.
Upon completion of the decorative works, all protection materials were cleared and the work areas were thoroughly cleaned. This included the removal of waste materials and ensuring the property was left spotless with our team of professional after works cleaners. Fixtures such as down lights, electrical switches, socket faceplates, paintings, mirrors and personal artefacts were reinstalled perfectly, restoring the residence to its pristine condition.
The result was a masterfully refreshed residence that honoured its historical roots while embracing modern luxury. The meticulous restoration of period details combined with contemporary finishes created a living space that was both sophisticated and inviting. The use of traditional techniques, high-quality materials and a bespoke approach to every aspect of the project underscored JRSL Interiors’ commitment to excellence.
