Hyde Park W2, set in the heart of London, has a rich architectural heritage shaped by centuries of urban evolution. Once royal hunting grounds, the surrounding area transformed in the 18th and 19th centuries with elegant Georgian and Regency townhouses. By the Victorian era, grand stucco-fronted terraces and mansion blocks lined roads like Bayswater and Lancaster Gate, reflecting classical design with ornate detailing.
Despite modern interventions in the post-war period, much of the historic architecture remains preserved under conservation rules. Hyde Park W2 today is a showcase of architectural continuity, where 19th-century grandeur meets refined contemporary living. From tree-lined crescents to decorative façades, the area offers a glimpse into West London’s refined past and present, making it one of the capital’s most architecturally distinguished neighbourhoods.

Consultation

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout.

Client: Mr Charles Wentworth
Property: Grade II Listed Apartment, Albion Gate, Hyde Park London W2
Project Scope: Full internal restoration and redecoration of a five-bedroom period residence used intermittently by the client and his family during London visits. The client worked with a UK-based design firm while residing primarily in Geneva.
Mr Wentworth’s property within Albion Gate was architecturally striking, but decades of unsympathetic renovations had obscured or damaged many original features. Layer upon layer of gloss paint had dulled intricate ceiling mouldings. The original sash windows were swollen and shut due to poorly executed repairs. A moisture imbalance in the lime plaster walls had caused minor but widespread surface degradation. The interior lacked cohesion and character and needed to reflect its historical significance and the client’s contemporary lifestyle.
Heritage Audit & Consultation
Our process began with a complete visual and material assessment. We coordinated with the client’s designer and submitted a conservation-sensitive plan that retained original features while allowing for subtle modern updates.
Specialist Strip-Back & Surface Recovery
We gently stripped old coatings from plaster mouldings using a low-impact alkali gel and fine tools. Sash windows were carefully disassembled, repaired with spliced timber sections and reweighted for smooth movement.
Rebalancing Internal Wall Fabric
Internal walls were tested for moisture and repaired using traditional lime plaster with hemp fibre for breathability. Areas with structural cracks were stabilised using stainless-steel helifix rods before re-plastering.
Decorative Finishes
The client opted for breathable, mineral-based paints in calming, tonal shades supplied by Edward Bulmer Natural Paint. We hand-painted panelled doors in hard wearing eggshell and applied a brushed limewash technique to key walls to maintain a period feel with subtle texture.
Final Touches & Client Walkthrough
The project was completed over 10 weeks with a live progress feed for the overseas client. We conducted a final walk-through with the designer and estate manager, ensuring every detail was perfectly signed off.
The apartment’s historical character was fully reinstated, with sympathetic restoration enhancing its value and charm. Finishes felt light, natural and elegant, ideally suited to a property overlooking Hyde Park. Most importantly, the home now functioned as a calm, welcoming space tailored to the family’s use, without sacrificing its architectural pedigree.
“JRSL Interiors were an absolute god send. They took total control of every situation regarding this project and managed it with an extremely high level of service. Everything was explained clearly and updated regularly; the workmanship is second to none. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.”
We use conservation-grade materials and traditional methods and liaise with heritage specialists where necessary. Our approach ensures the integrity and value of listed homes are preserved.
For exterior stucco, we recommend mineral silicate or lime-based paints. They allow the property to breathe and prevent trapped moisture, extending the surface's lifespan.
Absolutely. We often blend heritage detailing with modern paint techniques like polished plaster, lacquered ceilings or matt-microcement to achieve a balanced, contemporary result.

Yes. We apply durable, washable finishes including reinforced emulsions, scuff-resistant varnishes and high-traffic coatings developed for long-term performance.
We provide expert colour advice and happily collaborate with your design team to ensure a cohesive palette that enhances space, light and architectural detail.
Preparation is key. We strip back failing layers, repair underlying plaster or timber, prime using breathable systems and only apply top coats for lasting results.
We frequently coordinate with estate managers and concierge teams. Our schedule adapts to property access requirements, ensuring seamless service.
Yes. We favour environmentally responsible brands like Graphenstone, Edward Bulmer and Little Greene, all of which offer VOC-free or low-toxin options.
By balancing historical knowledge with technical expertise. We respect original features but aren’t afraid to integrate newer innovations like ambient lighting reveals or feature finishes.
